MDC makes changes to reservation system for fall hunting

With the 2019 waterfoul hunting season just around the corner, the Missouri Department of Conservation is making changes to the reservation system for the fall hunting season based on a collective survey.

Changes include having only one member from each party draw for their area selection, as well as offering 50 percent of daily hunting positions for the managed-hunt areas through online reservations. Wildlife Program Supervisor, Lauren Hildreth, says they are trying to provide the most opportunity for this season's hunters.

"We're trying to provide the most opportunity and the most flexibility for our hunters.  Through that survey we saw their preferences and we are trying to implement some of those changes.  So use-wise, we shouldn't see a lot of changes with this.  The new system isn't going to provide a lot of changes of hunting days.  It's all going to be consistent, the 60-day season, that kind of thing."

Hildreth says that the new system will provide more organized reservations for hunting areas as opposed to the previous seasons.

"We have three areas on a different system than the rest of the state.  Some of our areas were a one member draw system.  Some were an every member draw.  So every single person in the hunting party would pull a pill and the lowest number, they would keep.  So it's a lot more consistent now."

Hildreth also mentions that most hunting areas include an ADA accessible blind, open for reservation from September 1st through 18th. For more information, or to apply, visit MDC.MO.GOV and search for Waterfoul Reservations on their webpage.
